Students with toys they collectedThird Grader Ensures Children in Need Get Toys for Christmas

Thanks to the thoughtfulness of third grader Marissa Lackey, more than 100 children in need will have a brand new toy to unwrap this Christmas. After seeing a story on the news about Toys for Tots, the Tamarac Elementary School student asked her teacher if they could organize a collection at school. “I thought it was a good idea because we get a lot of presents but a lot of kids don’t,” Marissa explained. Hat and Mitten TreeStudents Donate Hats and Mittens to Joseph's House and Shelter

Joseph’s House and Shelter in Troy will be able to provide individuals they serve hats, mittens and scarves this winter thanks to Tamarac Elementary and Middle School students. Each year, Elementary School students collect new hats and mittens for their Hat and Mitten Tree. Middle School students in the Kids Care afterschool program also knit items to put on the tree. Items are then brought to Joseph’s House and Shelter to give out to those in need. Great work! Posted 12/20/11.

Troy Public Library Offers Free Tutoring for Students Ages 8 and Up

The Troy Public Library is offering a free tutoring program for students ages 8 and up. “Beyond the Classroom” is offered at the main library on Wednesdays from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Students can receive help in all subject areas.   • Regular hand washing with soap and water, especially before eating
  • Keeping hands away from your eyes, nose and mouth
  • Covering coughs
  • Stay home if you or your child is sick Talk with you primary health care provider about the flu vaccine
  • Be extra vigilant if you or your child have a chronic respiratory disease such as asthma, or are immunocompromised

Pumpkin Carving Day Brings Dads to Tamarac Elementary

Reminder for Parents About Start Time of School

Tamarac Elementary would like to remind parents not to bring children to school before the start of school at 8:45 a.m. unless they are enrolled in the before care program, remedial morning program or have band lessons. Students receive certificates at the BOE meetingBOE Recognizes Students for Excelling at Odyssey of the Mind

At its October 6 meeting, the Board of Education recognized Tamarac Elementary students who participated in the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals in May. The team of students qualified for the World Finals by finishing first in regional competition and second in state competition.
