Thanks to the thoughtfulness of third grader Marissa Lackey, more than 100 children in need will have a brand new toy to unwrap this Christmas.
After seeing a story on the news about Toys for Tots, the Tamarac Elementary School student asked her teacher if they could organize a collection at school.
“I thought it was a good idea because we get a lot of presents but a lot of kids don’t,” Marissa explained. Read more by

Students
Donate Hats and Mittens to Joseph's House and Shelter
Joseph’s House and Shelter
in Troy will be able to
provide individuals they serve hats, mittens and scarves this
winter thanks to Tamarac Elementary and Middle School students.
Each year, Elementary School students collect new hats and
mittens for their Hat and Mitten Tree. Middle School students in
the Kids Care afterschool program also knit items to put on the
tree. Items are then brought to
Joseph’s House and Shelter to
give out to those in need. Great work!

The annual Pumpkin Carving Day at Tamarac Elementary School was
a big hit once again this year as fathers and grandfathers
visited kindergartners in class to carve pumpkins together.
“It’s a nice way for them to visit their
children and get involved in our school community,” said
Principal Karen Lederman. “And the students absolutely love it.”
