Thanks to the tremendous contributions of students and
their families, our Katrina Backpack Project was a remarkable success.
Tamarac students collected enough school supplies to fill 103 backpacks
for the young hurricane victims in Mississippi and Louisiana. We also sent
extra boxes of pencils, pens, glue, crayons, markers, protractors and some
special supplies for their teachers!
Due to the energetic support of parents in our school
community, we received cash donations, offers of assistance from local
businesses, and were able to arrange transportation for all of the
supplies. Thanks to Kim Woodard for connecting us with Borwegen Trucking
Company of Greenville, New York. Thanks also, to Angela LeMay and her
friends at Albany International for their support, and the folks at Sunset
Salon and Gallivan Corporation for their generous donations
Of course, this project would not have been possible without the
kindergarten parents who volunteered their time and energy to help prepare
the backpacks and get them out to the children who need them.
Your participation and overwhelming support of this service learning
project goes to shows that Tamarac really cares and shares! It truly
embodied our school motto:
Take A Minute
And Reach A Child!
