This school year, Tamarac Elementary students couldn’t wait to get to lunch so they could enjoy their once-a-week treat, a frozen juice slush.
But judging by their excitement as they waited eagerly in the lunch line, the students didn’t appear to know they were also getting 100% of their daily vitamin C with their juice slush that also has no sugar added and no fat or cholesterol.
“The slushes have been a huge hit with the students this year. They really get excited,” said Food Services Director Joy Wright. “It’s 100% juices so it’s a good snack with no sugar added.”
The slushes have been so popular with students this year that Ms. Wright had to limit them to once-a-week for each grade to keep up with the demand.
Ms. Wright also credited her Food Services staff for help making them so popular with students.
Helen Godfrey, for example, has a new name with the students: “Sally Slush”. She even wears a special apron and hat with the name “Sally Slush” for the students while Tammy Ali handles the flood of students at the register who can’t wait to get their juice slushes.
“Our staff deserves a lot of credit too. They have done an excellent job to make this happen as it is pretty labor intensive,” said Ms. Wright.
